Hands-on Measurement Stations

It's impossible to understand units of measurement without hands-on practice using them.  This week, we are visiting a number of stations set up to offer practice using both metric and customary units of length, weight/mass, and capacity.

The measuring spoons, cups, and buckets are used to show capacity.

Students watched a Brainpop movie about the history of the customary and metric units of measurement.

This matching activity helps get us in the measurement mindset before we use rulers, yardsticks, and metersticks to find length of various objects.
