The Week of February 15, 2021

Happy Valentine’s Day weekend!  I hope you find yourself surrounded by loved ones!

This upcoming week in school looks to be a good one!  I will be delivering Zoom lessons daily and assigning appropriate follow-up works.  In addition, your child is asked to complete their weekly ReadWorks activity, Saxon work, 20 minutes of iReady on Wednesday and Friday, and read on Amira Tuesday and Thursday (4th only).  I will post a spelling quiz, a vocabulary activity, and cultural activity for your child to complete Wednesday.  REMINDER: Students do NOT have school on Monday, Feb 15.

On February 22nd, we are entering the next phase of the SCCPSS “Return to Learn” Covid plan.  There will be three different cohorts of students in our class:

Cohort A:  Attend class on campus either 2 of 3 days a week

Cohort B:  Attend class on campus either 2 or 3 days a week

Cohort C:  Attend class at home Monday through Friday

It is my hope that we can keep our current schedule in place as much as we can as we transition into this next phase of reopening campus.  That being said, some changes may need to be made to accommodate for this different structure.  One of the changes that will be made is that our class will have all exploration classes on Mondays.  This will require me to modify our live Zoom lesson schedule as follows:

Monday - EXPLORATION CLASSES 8:00-12:00 (No Zoom lessons from Mr. Trent)

Tuesday - Writing Zoom Lesson

Wednesday - Math Zoom Lesson (No longer “Asynchronous Wednesdays”; there will be live Zoom lessons)

Thursday - Geometry Zoom Lesson

Friday - Cultural (Science/Social Studies) Zoom Lesson

Your child’s ItsLearning calendar has been updated to reflect this new schedule.

Cohorts A and B families, in the near future you will be receiving an email from administration with logistical information about returning to on-campus learning.  It will include information about arrival/dismissal times, supply lists, safety procedures, and many other aspects of “Return to Learn''.  Your child will now be receiving the lessons and having their worktime on campus 2 or 3 days a week.  Your child should continue attending lessons and working on followup works as they have in the past during the days you are at home.

Cohort C families, please continue to attend lessons and complete weekly works as in the past from home.

More information from SCCPSS about the reopening can be found here: https://spwww.sccpss.com/Pages/School-Reopening-Guidance.aspx

Finally, please be sure that you have logged into and explored the Parent Access Portal of ItsLearning.  This portal is useful for being “in the know” about lessons your child is receiving.  I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about the Parent Portal.

Enjoy your weekend,

Trent

The Week of February 8, 2021

We’ve already reached the mid-point of term 3!  I will be sending progress reports your way this upcoming Wednesday.  As before, this report will list all of the required works so far this term noting how you performed on each.  In addition, it will indicate any missing works that should be completed as soon as possible.

Our required assignments this week are consistent with what they have been:  daily follow-ups from our Zoom lessons, one ReadWorks assignment, one Saxon work (Lesson 21), 30 minutes of iReady Practice (Mon, Wed, Fri), 30 minutes of reading on Amira (Tues & Thurs, 4th grade only), posted Wednesday work (spelling quiz, vocab. activity, & a cultural activity).

While we cannot have a traditional Valentine exchange in a virtual setting, I’d like to invite each of you to create one virtual Valentine to share with the class!  I will introduce this activity to everyone on Tuesday.  I’m asking that the Valentine be submitted to me by the end of the day Wednesday, so I can compile them to share with the entire class on Friday.

Finally, I will be absent Monday, therefore I will not be holding Zoom lessons that day.  A self-paced interactive lesson about Booker T. Washington will be posted on itslearning for you to complete.  I will also you to complete at least 30 minutes of reading practice on iReady.  I will resume Zoom lessons Tuesday morning.

Have a lovely weekend,

Trent
