The Week of August 31, 2020

Can you believe we just finished our first FULL week of school?!  I've had such a nice time sharing lessons with you!  I've really enjoyed getting to know you and seeing your works.

This week, we will continue our lessons in each of the subjects.  As always, your lessons schedule is posted on the Mr. Trent's E-Learning Class course in ItsLearning.  You may notice on the calendar that GEP will begin to meet this week.  In addition, some other small group lessons will be taking place.  Be sure to review your schedule very closely each day, so that you don't miss any lessons.  If you do miss a lesson, or if you wish to review what we talked about, I record and post each lesson in the "Resources" section of ItsLearning.  Feel free to view them at any time!

Please note that all required followup work is posted on Google Classroom.  It is a good idea to review your works to make sure you have submitted everything.  I've noticed that some students have finished the work, but simply forgot to press the "Turn In" button.  Choice works that are listed in the "Announcements" section of ItsLearning are NOT required assignments, but please consider completing some of these works throughout the week as they are great compliments to lessons we've been having.

I have office hours each morning from 7:30-8:00.  You can use the link in the schedule found on ItsLearning to join me during this time for one-on-one help with works or to ask any questions you may have.

Have a relaxing weekend,

Mr. Trent

The Week of August 24, 2020

Congratulations on completing the first week of school!  I want to say a huge “Thank You” to everyone for being patient and so very helpful as we worked through our first few days together.  I am so proud of our classroom community for pulling together to ensure that everyone was able to not only get online, but also engage with their classmates!  We will continue to have a few technical issues along the way, but most of the big tech hurdles have been jumped because of your willingness to partner with me across cyberspace.  Thank you, again!

The week of August 24th, we will begin following a class schedule that will more closely resemble a “normal” school day.  The daily schedule will always be posted in your child’s ItsLearning platform under the course titled “Mr. Trent’s E-Learning Class”.  Links to the Zoom meetings for each class will be included to make it easier for you to know where to be.  The schedule includes a daily gradelevel-specific content lesson, times for independent work on required assignments and choicework, explorations, lunch, and recess.  I will have office hours (accessible from the link on the schedule) each day from 7:30am-8:00.  GEP, EIP, and other small-group lessons will NOT begin this week...we will add those meetings once we can ensure that the students feel comfortable following the basic schedule.  I highly encourage you to log into ItsLearning this weekend and go over the schedule again with your child so you will know exactly where and when they will need to be in a lesson.  I am available to answer questions at any time via remind or email (trent.kissinger@sccps.com).

I’m excited to start content lessons with the class this week!  We will begin with three Montessori Great Lessons: God With No Hands, The Story of Language, and The Story of Numbers.  There will be a variety of engaging required assignments and choice works for the students to enjoy throughout the week.

Finally, the upper elementary team would  like to invite all 4th and 6th grade families to a special informational session to answer any questions you may have specifically about the transition to upper elementary or 6th grade. The 4th grade meeting will be on August 25th at 5:30. The 6th grade meeting will be on August 26th at 5:30. Please see your weekly overview email from Mr. Trent for the Zoom links to attend.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mr. Trent
