The Week of April 29th, 2019

GMAS testing has come to an end, and we are ready to get back to our regular worktime schedule!  I hope you are as ready as I am for some fun, engaging, and though-provoking worktimes!

This week we will be taking a look at how the many lessons we had this year in social studies fit into Maria Montessori's "Fundamental Human Needs" chart.  Each of you will be given a time period in history that we've studied this year and you will create a fundamental needs chart telling about it.  I'm excited to see what you can come up with!  In addition, I will be presenting some students with a lesson on finding the area of compound polygons.  Everyone will be required to complete a www.quill.org and www.newsela.com activity by Friday. In addition, please study the following word study lists for a quiz Friday.

arrow group
-ation: characterization, militarization, configuration, magnification, strangulation -ption: misconception, subscription, contraption, eruption, corruption

swirl group
thr-: thrive, throat, thread, throng, thrash
shr-: shred, shrewd, shroud, shrink, shrine

star group
Double Consonant followed by le: kettle, shuttle, topple, grapple, smuggle
Single Consonant followed by le:  beetle, hurtle, cycle, sparkle, bugle

Because testing has come to an end, we will be sending home weekly progress reports Tuesday. Families, please check www.transparentclassroom.com and sign the work plan to show that you have reviewed it.

Tuesday evening is our Ellis Science Celebration of Cosmic Education!  Please submit any works you wish to share at the event ASAP.

Finally, Friday is Field Day in Daffin Park!  We will be sending home a walking field-trip permission form this week.  Please sign and return it by Friday to participate in this fun event.  Don't forget to wear your t-shirt!

See you Monday,
Mr. Trent
