Don't Forget: Student Superlative Award Nominations are Due Wednesday

If you are in my homeroom, don't forget to place your superlative award nominations in the voting box by the end of the day tomorrow.  I will count the votes Wednesday night and hand out the awards Friday.  What will your superlative be?!

Everyone has a strength!  What is yours?

The Week of May 18, 2015

Well, you've made it: it's the last week of school!  I can't believe how fast this year has gone!  Let's take the time this week to enjoy our last few days together as a class.  This week we will be closing our classroom, so expect a lot of practical life practice!  While we are working in small groups to clean and pack Montessori materials for the summer, you will be invited to complete any of the choices on the following sheet.

One of my favorite traditions every year is awarding student superlative awards.  I will give you a list of superlatives and you can vote your classmates for each award.  Who is the friendliest?  Who is the most artistic?  Who is most likely to help a friend in need?  YOU decide who gets each award.  I will announce the winners Friday.

I am looking for someone (or a couple families) to keep Georgia over the summer.  Please bring a signed note from home if you'd like to keep him.

Finally, this week is parent/teacher/student conferences.  If you haven't already done so, please return your request sheet as soon as possible.  I ask that all students be present at this conference where we review the entire year and talk about plans for the future!

I'll see you tomorrow morning,
Mr. Trent

Parent/Teacher/Student conferences request forms were sent home today.  Please identify when you are available next week to meet. We will be talking about the your child's performance this term and overall this year.   If possible, both parents and students should attend the conference together.  I look forward to meeting with you and providing some closure on the 2014-2015 school year!

Congrats on a Job Well Done!

Congratulations for a wonderful performance of Charles Ellis Presents:  The Story of Humans and Their Fundamental Needs!  You did an amazing job telling the story of this Montessori great lesson!

The Week of May 11, 2015

The week of our musical is finally here!  We will have a little bit more time to prepare before our dress rehearsal on Wednesday morning for your schoolmates.  Wednesday night is the big show!  Please be at the school anytime between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm so we can be prepared for the 6:30 showtime.  Tickets are on sale in the media center for $5.00 each.  They will also be available at the door Wednesday evening.  As of today, the weather looks like it will cooperate, but we have Thursday reserved as a rain-date just in case.  We will let you know if the show will need to be rescheduled Wednesday morning.

This week is also the annual ellis field day!  Friday we will walk over to Daffin Park for some outside fun!  You will spend some of your day mentoring (and playing) with some of your younger schoolmates.  Use this time to teach them the skills of teamwork, playing fair, and being a good sport.   You will also have plenty of time to enjoy fun games with your classmates.  Please see the letter from Coach Leslie concerning field day do's and don'ts.  There are also two important things to keep in mind in order to enjoy field day:

1.  You must bring in your permission slip by Wednesday.  This is a free walking field trip.
2.  You must have completed all your 4th term work and your yearly compass learning.  If you owe me any work, I noted it on your permission slip.  If your permission slip did not state that you owe work, you are good to go!

I'm looking forward to an action-packed week with you,
Mr. Trent

The Week of May 4, 2015

Our musical preparations are in full swing!  We have a busy week ahead as we continue work on our show.

This week will also include TWO dress down days!  The first will be Wednesday when you can dress in your favorite sports team colors.  Bring in $1 to be donated to Ellis sports to do so.  On Friday, bring in $1 to dress down and support Autism awareness.

Remember that all work (4th term classwork, homework, as well as yearly Compass Learning) is due before Friday, May 15.  Be sure to hand it in by then so that you can enjoy the field day activities.

Have a great weekend!
Mr. Trent
