Mineral identification lab
Wednesday, August 20, 2014
This week, students conducted a lab where they were required to test a number of mystery minerals and use the information to discover their identities. We tested the color, luster, hardness (using Moh's scale), the streak, and how it breaks. The minerals were identified as sulfur, pyrite, hematite, and quartz. I've placed some more minerals and testing equipment on the science shelf. See if you can use what you know to identify these minerals, too! There is also a fun virtual mineral identification lab found by clicking HERE that you may wish to explore.
