What's in Store for the Week of October 1st?

Happy first week of October!

In math this week we will be doing some more division, but with fractions instead of decimals.  I really want you to stretch your brain into understanding what it actually means to divide decimals.  It can be a rather abstract idea, but we'll work through it together.  Here's a great video that demonstrates division of fractions using fraction pieces:

Be prepared for two nights of math homework this week, and a quiz on division of fractions on Thursday.  Remember to complete your math journal by Thursday and your TenMarks assignment by Friday.

It's all about DIRT in science class this week!  We will get our hands dirty as we discover many amazing facts about soil!  We'll use an interactive text on Monday to start our investigation.  Then, I will set you free to do your own research.  To guide you along, you will complete the following choice sheet.  It will be due Friday, October 12th.  (Be careful, the dates on these sheets are wrong, I will be sure to give you a copy with the correct dates on them in class tomorrow.)

You will have two tests during our lessons on soil.  The first will be a vocabulary test this Friday.  The second will be a unit test on soil next Friday.  Here is a study guide to help you with both tests:

I have just a few additional reminders:
1.  If you are ordering anything from Scholastic Book Clubs, please give your order and payment to me by Tuesday.  If you are paying by check, make it out to Charles Ellis Montessori Academy.
2.  This Friday is another dress down day.  It will cost you one dollar to participate, and all the proceeds will go towards Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness.

I'll see you tomorrow!
Mr. Trent
